State of the Art-Kitchen

KITCHEN | Hand-blown glass pendants hang at different heights over the island for a contemporary look in the kitchen. The walnut table features a hand-chiseled edge. It can be detached from the island to seat eight. The ceiling above the island and table is recessed only about 2½ inches. “Even that small recess in the ceiling can add definition,” Knauss says. The wife is particularly fond of the window seat/banquette. “It’s used way more than I thought it would be,” she says. Knauss broke up the cabinetry with open shelving at right. “To get away from the traditional cabinets, we did lighted shelves—it makes the kitchen not so serious.” Cabinetry above the windows increases storage capacity.
