  • VINCE LOMBARDI TROPHY | Phil Simms lent his Vince Lombardi trophy (opposite, left foreground in photo) to Ostrom to use in this space. Hand-painted murals on the coffered ceiling represent tristate teams.

  • RED THEME | The sofa and bar stools carry on the red theme. The bar top was painstakingly created from beer bottle caps and sealed with resin.

  • TELEVISIONS | Two televisions positioned above the table allow card players to keep up with the games.

Color and creativity combine in fund-raiser.

Football legend Phil Simms was the impetus behind Barbara Ostrom’s design for the sports-themed pub room. “I have always admired him,” says the designer, who eventually met and worked with Simms. To make this a room she imagined the football great might love and use, she included lots of televisions. “Since he’s moved on to being a sportscaster, he watches the games and is constantly flipping the channels.” Ostrom chose red as a unifying color. That color appears throughout the space, most strikingly in the canvas murals in the recesses of the coffered ceiling. Of course, the Giants logo plays a huge part in the room, but in the interest of geographic and athletic fairness, Ostrom also included logos from the tristate area’s basketball, baseball and hockey teams.

The Designer Showhouse of New Jersey was in a Saddle River home built by Joseph DiStaulo Homes. The event benefited Hackensack University Medical Center (hackensackumc.org).
