The 20th anniversary showhouse and gardens to debut

Three Fields, a French manor-style home in the Borough of Mendham, will be the site of the 2023 Mansion in May Designer Showhouse and Gardens.

The preeminent Mansion in May Designer Showhouse and Gardens will be held May 1-31 at the historic Three Fields in the Borough of Mendham. It will feature 31 interior design spaces and 17 exterior spaces, including one focusing on the history of Mansion in May and one in memory of a former showhouse volunteer.”

Presented by the Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center, Mansion in May will raise money for the expansion and modernization of The Institute of Bioskills Training and Innovation at Morristown Medical Center. The center, which opened in 2005, offers physicians, nurses and other health professionals a safe and controlled environment in which to practice clinic skills without risk of patient harm through simulation training.

Three Fields, which will be the association’s 20th showhouse, is a 9,000-square-foot stone and brick French manor-stye home with a tiled roofed. New York architect Greville Rickard designed the home for Benjamin Duncan Mosser and his wife, the former Florence Willets Mosford. It was built in 1929 and 1930 on almost 36 acres of pastoral fields and features tall, steeply pitched tile roofs with dormers, wood casement windows and French doors that open to formal gardens, ponds and fields beyond. The façade, comprising several conjoined units — as if it was added to over the years — as well as roofs with built-in bumps and sags — served to further project the romantic look of an elegant, long-established country home.

Tickets for self-guided tours are $50 per person. The mansion is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last entry at 3 p.m. You may view the gardens before or after visiting the mansion. Ticket holders may also shop in the boutiques and have lunch on the mansion grounds at the Three Fields Café.

Some things to remember: the mansion is not handicapped accessible, children under the age of 12 (including infants) and pets are not permitted, and there is no parking onsite. Parking and free shuttle service to and from the showhouse is at 82 West Main Street in Mendham.
