As a credentialed kitchen designer, what is your favorite kitchen appliance?

"As we all start to think more about healthy cooking and good nutrition, the Miele steam oven is great because the steam locks in vitamins and nutrients. You can even prepare the whole meal at once — for example, fish, chicken, vegetables, and dessert — and everything cooks perfectly with no flavor transfer. A steam oven is better for defrosting too because it doesn’t start to cook the meat like a microwave does. And you get all of this in a well-designed, well-engineered, compact appliance (about two feet wide by 18 inches high) that’s easy to operate. I’ve never had anything bad come out of our steam oven."

"The GE Spacemaker II is my favorite microwave to use for any size or style of kitchen. The compact size gives me the flexibility to design this into a wall cabinet without taking away from the overall aesthetics of the kitchen."

"I like Dacor’s fully integrated warming drawer because you can put a panel on the front to integrate it with kitchen cabinetry. It also comes in different sizes (24-, 27-, and 30-inch models), and it has humidity controls that allow you to keep food warm and moist in multiple situations: when you have a party, when you have multiple courses, and when your family members are on different schedules and don’t want to eat microwaved food when they get home. You also can use the drawers to warm plates for the dining table and even towels for the bath."

"My favorite kitchen appliance is a Miele dishwasher. I have one in my home and I specify them for all my clients. They are quiet, they clean thoroughly with no watermarks or soap film left behind, and they are extremely well-laid-out. The pullout silverware tray is a great innovation, and the ability to alter the rack sizes is extremely helpful for loading many different-sized items. Of all the appliances I specify, I am always thanked for recommending this one."

"A favorite appliance of mine is the Wolf warming drawer. I love warming drawers because they keep food moist or crisp, and they are great for keeping pancakes warm while cooking for a crowd!" - DNJ
