Cape May hosts Stained-Glass History Exhibit

Through November 7, 2010

Local artist and glass expert Dottie Rogers will be guest curator for an exhibit of photographs of Cape May’s richly colored nineteenth-century windows, tools of the stained-glass trade, samples of colored glass, and stories of the restoration of church windows in town. The exhibit is at The Carriage House on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington Street. The exhibit is open daily, hours vary. Spring Lake Historical Museum Exhibit

Through December 31, 2010

Beginning March 18th, an exhibit entitled "The Hidden Treasures of the Historical Society" will be on display showing photographs of people and places along with artifacts of Spring Lake that were donated to the Society but have never been displayed to the public. Leon Levinstein Photography at The Met

"Hipsters, Hustlers and Handball Players, Leon Levinstein's New York Photographs, 1950-1980" is the name of this exhibit that will display approximately 45 different photographs that reflect Levinstein's fearless approach to the medium. A master of classic American street photography, Leon Levinstein (American, 1910-1988) is best known for his candid unsentimental black-and-white figure studies made in New York City neighborhoods from Times Square and the Lower East Side to Coney Island. The event will take place at The Howard Gilman Gallery on the second floor and recommended admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for students and free for children under 12. Cape May Designer Showhouse and Gardens

The 2010 Cape May Designer Showhouse and Gardens will take place at Historic Fairthorne Cottage at 115 Ocean Street. It will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. daily and also 7 to 9 p.m. on Sundays and Fridays. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for ages 3 to 12. Lunch and dinner tour combinations are available. Ruth Newman Shapiro Showhouse at the Shore

The 2010 RNS Showhouse at the Shore "Windsong on Wesley" located at 1501 Wesley Avenue in Ocean City, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Admission is $25 for adults, $10 for children under 12. No strollers. tickets to a July 9 preview are $60 each. Proceeds benefit The Ruth Newman Shapiro Cancer and Heart Fund.

The Seashore Conversations Lecture Series, held as part of the RNS Show House, offers what promises to be interesting presentations at 11 a.m. every Thursday from July 15 through August 12. The lectures will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1001 Central Avenue in Ocean City. Admission to the entire lecture series is complimentary with the purchase of a show house ticket. The lectures are: “Self Care: The Art of Caring for the Caregivers Caring For Loved Ones with Mental Health Issues,” presented by Debra Yetter Silver on July 15; “Organizing Your Health Information,” Johanna Rinaldi on July 22; “The History of Ocean City, NJ” by Ken Cooper on July 29; “Quilts in the Home” by Merry May on August 5; and “Women and Coronary Artery Disease” by Dr. David Dow on August 12.

Cape May National Lighthouse Day Tours and Activities

National Lighthouse Day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cape May Lighthouse, will feature family activities such as pirate-hat making, games, music, and craft vendors. Montclair Art Museum Anniversary Exhibit

August 8 to August 31, 2010

The Montclair Art Museum will mark its 95th anniversary and its distinction as the first museum in the state with an exhibition focusing on American and Native American art. More than 60 works of art will be on display, including nearly 40 familiar treasurers, selections from 23 recent acquisitions, and 21 that have never been shown at the museum before. Statewide Garden Programs and Tours

Bayonet Farm Arts & Music Festival

September 12, 2010

Bayonet Farm, located at 41 Middletown Road in Holmdel will be hosting its Arts and Music Festival from noon to 5 p.m. A Gallery of oils, watercolors, pastels, sculptures, photography and glass artwork will be on display and for sale. Quick-draw, pottery making and other art demonstrations will be held in several of the farm's barns throughout the day. An array of musical bands will be performing Latin Jazz, Greek, Rock n' Roll, Chinese music and more. Admission to the festival is $5, free for children ages 12 and under. The En Plein Air Juried Arts Competition is also taking place during the festival and requires a $5 fee for each piece of artwork submitted. Riverdale Art Center co-hosts Art of Food Festival

The Riverdale Art Center and The Riverdale Land Conservancy will host "The Art of Food" festival from 7 to 10 p.m. at the historic Glenburn Estate located at 211 Hamburg Turnpike off exit 53 from route 287 in Riverdale. The event will feature epicurean tasting prepared by top local chefs, wine tasting, an art auction and live music. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. 2010 Princeton Fall Antiques and Fine Art Show

The Historical Society of Princeton’s Fall Antiques and Fine Arts Show opens with a gala September 24 and continues the next two days with 55 exhibitors at Princeton Airport on Route 206. Admission is $12 and includes parking, a show catalog, and tote bag. Special events include “A Roving Eye,” an inside look at the Robert A. Ellison Jr. American Art Pottery Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The presentation will be given by Suzanne Perrault from the PBS Series “Antiques Roadshow” at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Experts from Rago Arts and Auction will conduct an appraisal clinic from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at $5 per piece. JADA to Debut: New Morristown show will offer options to help you express individual style

JADA, a new consumer show for jewelry, art, design, and antiques, will debut October 8-10 at the Morristown National Guard Armory. The show, presented by Meg Wendy, will feature about 50 dealers from around the world. The Wendy name has been associated with fine antiques shows in the Morristown Armory for 40 years. “The new name and format for the show reflects the new environment we live in,” Wendy says. “Mixing and matching modern, contemporary, and antiques together introduces new ideas and styles. Put together they create individual style!”

Linda Gumb of London, with “traditional” English antique furniture and accessories.
